I am grateful to have been able to spend a few minutes today with a very dear friend. When I think back to the first time I met Aubrey Edwards six years ago, I remember his kindness, gentle spirit, and love of laughter. Over the years, he and his wife, Phyllis, have been like a second set of parents to me. They have invested much time and energy in my life...everything from parenting and marriage advice to encouraging me in my spiritual life. Although Aubrey has fought difficult health battles since I've known him, he always asks how my family is and "what's new?" Today was no exception. Even in his evident physical pain, he made the effort to ask about my children and my husband. Not once did he complain or grumble about his physical condition, even when I asked him about it. He is a living display of God's grace. I pray that his days ahead are filled with comfort that only God can give him.
